An Iranian news agency associated with a respected conservative member of Iran’s parliament is calling for an Iranian attack on Israel in order to destroy the Jewish state.

Tehran: Iran's Supreme Leader says his country will assist any nation or group that "confronts" Israel, describing it as a "cancer”.

His speech came a day after Israel’s top political and military leadership issued a series of warnings to the Islamic Republic - including one from Israel’s Defense minister Ehud Barak who declared that  “If sanctions don’t achieve the desired goal of stopping [Iran’s] military nuclear program, there will be a need to consider taking action.”

Iran is trying to develop missiles with a range of 10,000 kilometers (6,200 miles) that would bring New York into its crosshairs, according to Israeli Vice-Prime Minister Moshe Yaalon.

Just about a week ago, the European Union agreed to an embargo on Iranian oil after Saudi Arabia promised to increase production to make up the difference. Iran immediately threatened that Arab countries assisting with the embargo would be “held responsible” and “one cannot predict the consequences.”

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, addressing a meeting of the U.N. Security Council Tuesday, said the international community must support the downfall of the Syrian regime.

The European Union’s 27 foreign ministers slapped new sanctions Monday on Iranian oil imports and the country’s Central Bank.

The measure prohibits any new oil contracts with the Islamic republic but allows existing deals to continue until July. It also freezes the assets of Iran's Central Bank and bans all trade in diamonds, gold and other precious metals with the bank and other public bodies.
