"A historic day in the work of the Government," is how Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defined the weekly Cabinet meeting today (Sunday), 14.3.10, after ministers approved three important decisions regarding continued growth, prosperity and security for the future of Israel.
The three decisions, which were made after extensive staff work, including dozens of discussions and today's five-hour Cabinet meeting, are:
1) Approval for a new draft law for the reform of Israel's complicated planning and construction procedures. The reform will shorten the wearying bureaucratic process that Israelis and contractors must currently undergo and will constitute an internal lever for economic growth.
2) Approval for the construction of a ground barrier along 240 kilometers of the Israeli-Egyptian border, part of which will be in the form of a fence and part in the form of other technological means. NIS 1.35 will be invested in the construction of the barrier, which will prevent the mass infiltration from Africa of people without permits, foil the infiltration of terrorist elements and maintain the Jewish and democratic character of the State.
3) A new plan to bring back Israeli scientists and technicians who live abroad. NIS 450 million will be invested in the plan in order to strengthen research and academe in Israel.
