by Tom Brennan,
As America disengages itself from the Middle East, anointing Tehran as its replacement, a relationship that endured for decades begins to fade. Many believers of Christian and Jewish faith shake their heads in puzzlement as America turns its attention to race divisions, income equality, same sex marriage and letting a nation hostile to not only America but Jews everywhere proceed to arm itself with nuclear weapons. Conservatives say “wait until 2016” but events are moving too fast to fill the vacuum of power. The President admits that the Caliphate has moved too fast and is now global. The multi-billion dollar program to recruit and train anti-ISIS troops has generated only 60 graduates. Who can blame them when they see videos of gruesome executions of opposing forces, and non-combatants by the Caliphate/ISIS?
Sadly, we must admit that the relationship between the two Governments has changed and events in the region opened up new doors to cooperation and alliances for Israel based on common needs. Nations need allies they can trust, and the United States can no longer be trusted. The edgy and often secret cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Israel is now a little more open. Both face extermination from the Shia’ Caliphate. In all the years of its existence Israel has faced attacks and internal terrorism from Muslim forces and never surrendered or been overcome. The Saudi’s are a ruling family of savvy and pragmatic princes; Israel’s strength makes it a valuable ally. The Gulf States, Egypt and Jordan know this and it has been proven as fighting in Sinai has increased.India is a giant in Asia and President Modi has made extraordinary efforts to extend the nation’s economic, diplomatic and military influence in the region. As a counterpoint to Pakistan’s questionable allegiances and as a bridge to Russian and Chinese relationships, India occupies a key position in regional solidarity.
Even Russia’s Putin has asserted his intent to protect persecuted Christians while America stands by and ignores widespread persecution and martyrdom of Christian populations. China itself has issues with Muslim minorities and its growth into the Pacific will extend its geographic influence as America withdraws.
Israel is a nation founded on miraculous and unimaginable events from Abraham’s birthright son at the age of 99 to the Red Sea escape of the Israelites. Despite expulsions, pogroms and a Holocaust engineered by monsters, Israel has survived and endured. Israel’s new allies are an unlikely group of former enemies and persecutors, but miracles to the eye of man are usually unlikely in themselves. That’s why we call the miracles. Israel: a miracle in many ways.
