France and much of Europe are feeling the weight of terror attacks. Emerging from the shadows, killers take as many innocent lives as possible before detonating their explosive vests. The world shares its shock and Facebook comments. News media focus each broadcast on who was involved and how the French are reacting. Yet, five innocents were killed in Israel and this hardly rates a back page or second or two. Why?
The media still seems set against Israel. Slanted reports, video and any attempt to try to set the record straight seem absent. Perhaps Scripture can clear this up once and for all. “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, ‘I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.’ Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying: ‘As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you. Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”(Genesis 17:1-6). This covenant is eternal. No one but The Almighty has any control over it. No matter what Kings of the North, Gog and Magog, or any earthly power do, Israel will endure. To stand with Israel is to stand with God.We are at war. We will be persecuted because of who we are and what we believe. The enemy hates us, our friends in Israel and above all, our God. There is no neutral ground or treaty to protect us. Only a continued faith and hope in the promises made by The Almighty can save us. Trial and tribulations are here but we were promised rescue if we persist.
Israel stands in faith and covenant and in the resolve to resist the enemies who seek to destroy the land and its people. We are bound to love our enemies, true. But making an enemy a friend means expecting him to cease working for our death and destruction and cease making war against us. Israel’s example of resolve, determination and faith practiced consistently are lessons for a world under attack from merciless foes.
