The “Deal” with Iran which was approved by the United Nations but not yet voted upon by the US Congress has brought many things to a focal point. American politicians continue to argue and dither about support for Israel. As details slip out about the give-away to Tehran the whole thing seems even more bizarre. Iran recognizes no terms for inspections, will continue its missile program; will continue to threaten Israel and all non-Shia Muslims, and it will gain billions of dollars as sanctions are released. As the Administration pounds its chest in triumph many thoughtful persons wonder where it will lead. As deafening chants of “death to America” and “death to Israel” echo in Tehran Israel prepares for what will be a time of test and trial. Yet, the only guaranteed winner is Israel. Scripture says so.
America was a nation of promise and was founded on religious principles. Israel was given to Abraham and his descendants by God. Despite good intentions and over two centuries of being the world’s most respected nation, America is seeing divisiveness, moral decay and a media-driven though process that was unheard of in the 1950’s. Many Christians are standing in opposition to the moral slide but others even boycott Israel or integrate their Bible readings with inclusion from the Quran or non-Scriptural sources. Many Christians hope in a rapture that will take them away from the coming storm. Yet the rapture itself is not fully explained in the Bible. In fact Paul’s mentioning it seems to draw an allusion to the resurrection of the dead before the Judgement, not to a singular event before the Second Coming. Some also have thought that because Paul was a Pharisee, his audience would understand his reference to it.
In many circles today people are afraid of coming events, weather emergencies, Jade Helm military exercises, political take overs and martial law. Bug-out bags and bunker supplies are widely advertised. Supermarkets have sections of survival foods. But Israel endures. 3,500 years of faithful existence and facing enemies who try to destroy you must amount to something. Israelis don’t have bug-out bags. They have missile shelters, not bunkers in the “boonies”. They will stand and fight for their Land. They won’t cower or run.
Certainly Israel has internal differences, Jews arguing with other Jews, daily attacks by Palestinian supporters, threats from Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran and now the Obama Administration. Yet daily life goes on, Shabbat is honored, a core confidence in God’s promises gives strength that cannot be compared to any other. As America sadly drifts away from its former allegiance to being “one Nation under God” we look to Israel that stands as one Nation under God for 3,500 years. Israel is our example of steadfast faith and courage and those of us who support The Land will use Israel’s courage as an example in the time before the storm.
