“See, my servant will act wisely; he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted. Just as there were many who were appalled at him—his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness—so he will sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him. For what they were not told, they will see, and what they have not heard, they will understand. (Isaiah 52:13)
The book of the prophet Isaiah contains some of the most important descriptions of the Jewish Messiah fulfilled in the life of Yeshua Jesus of Nazareth. It was Isaiah who prophesized for example, that the Messiah would be born of a virgin (7:14). The Hebrew says almah (עלמה), which is translated as young girl. Since in those days all young girls were virgins the use of the term virgin is appropriate here. This was fulfilled in Luke 1:26-31, when the virgin Mary or by her Hebrew name, Miriam, gave birth to Yeshua Jesus.
Altogether there are 44 mentions in the Book of Isaiah pertaining to the Messiah. He for example, is said to be an heir to David’s throne (9:7; 11:1, 10). This too was fulfilled in the life of Yeshua as we read in Luke 1:32, 33—“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
Isaiah 40:3-5 says that the way will be prepared for him. This is fulfilled through the ministry of John the Baptist (John 1:19-28). Isaiah 50:6 says he will be spat on and struck which is described in Matthew 26:67—“Then they spat in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him.”
