by Tom Brennan,
Spring is arriving in Israel. Passover was honored this time of year as is Feast of First Fruits. Israel saw snow this winter and the scenery was slippery and beautiful all at the same time. Greek Orthodox Easter has just been celebrated with Holy Fire being taken around the world to light churches and reaffirm hearts that “He is risen”. Israel stands firm and determined and will do so as Scripture says it will.
Much on the internet and social media is about the “deal” with Iran. So far the deal mostly imaginary and its business as usual. Iran contradicts itself and the United States still thinks it succeeded. We’ll see. This means Israel is open for business as usual. Shops and streets will be full. The eve of Shabbat will see crowds rushing to get foods to eat for the special meal and the Land will once again spend a day from sunset to sunset remembering Who placed them there. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to share these scenes, hear the shofar, see what has gone forth for 3,500 years as a people continuously remember and honor their G-d?
Today many churches and individuals schedule tours of Israel. The number of commercial agencies is overwhelming enough without trying to decide who can provide the most informed tour of a complex Land. Working with an Israel-based, managed and staffed agency is the obvious choice. Israel is small in land mass but overwhelming in spirit. There is only so much time and so many places to see. Your agency and guide and help select which places to go and get you there the best way. The cattle car syndrome of “if it’s Tuesday it must be Tel Aviv” can be avoided and done so pleasantly. A guide who speaks multiple languages and lives there can relate his or her home better than someone who does not.
As Christians we face an increasing sense of persecution from a world gone wild. Israel can teach us how to function on a daily basis as they have faced persecution and extermination for thousands of years and still rise each morning to say “Shema Yisrael…” Planning your tour of Israel will be an experience in searching for ways to meet the challenges and attacks that Jesus (Yeshua) said would come. You owe it to your Messiah and yourself to visit His Land and His people.
