by Tom Brennan,
Turning on the morning news has become a major challenge. Sudden changes in international alliances, conflicts among nations and realignments of old national partnerships are daily and hourly fare on the airways and internet. Today Iran and Saudi Arabia are in a war of words and proxy armies. Russia is the deal maker and game changer in the Middle East. Turkey sees its energy supply in danger and renews relations with rising energy power Israel. If it weren’t for Biblical prophecy we would be lost and adrift in a sea of doubt and confusion.Despite the spread of the early church out of Judea and into the known world, the complete focus of prophecy and End-Times prophecy in particular is Israel. All references to the times before the last tribulations, the return of the Messiah, the Messiah’s reign of a thousand years and the renewal of heaven and earth are focused on Israel. America, Great Britain, France, Russia, China are all “side shows”. In face of Islamic aggression, secularism and pluralism that are weakening the church, Israel still stands as the place where our attention must be centered.
The secular government of Israel is far from perfect. But it officially accepts its status within God’s plan for His people in Israel and in Greater Israel (those of us who look to Israel and the eternal Covenant of God and Abraham’s descendants, born to and grafted into the Assembly). As other national governments forsake their heritage we must join in an act of faith to urge them to renew their first allegiance to God. When a nation’s laws contradict those of God, we are bound to obey His in defiance of the State.
Today’s attention span of most television viewers, internet social media enthusiasts and game playing adolescents is less than the previous fifteen minutes once held as the general rule. The need to be constantly entertained has led to a departure from the absolutes that the Bible teaches. Words of instruction of what pleases The Almighty and what He considers an abomination are considered to be “intolerant”, offensive or divisive. Standing with Israel as The Land holds fast against Gog and Magog, the Kings of North and South and whoever the Anti-Christ appears to be is a necessity of faith. The daily news will change, but God’s promises and prophecies will not.
