by Tom Brennan,
On Thursday Jews and Christians will celebrate the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy as the day that Israel’s declaration of being a restored State in the world is commemorated. May 14, 1948 witnessed David Ben Gurion make the announcement that after centuries of being scattered to the four corners of the earth, the Jews were coming back. The Land that G-d had given to Abraham and his descendants would once again see his people, ravaged by persecution, pogrom and Holocaust, worship G-d in the Promised Land. All who had been away in foreign nations were welcomed back. As Christians we have a reason to celebrate this day, it is our home as well.
Beginning at sunset Wednesday until sunset Thursday celebrations, commemorations and remembrances will occur not only in Israel but wherever Israelis of the heart dwell. Although the original date May 14, 1948 is the date the declaration was made, Israel follows a Jewish lunar calendar and the date is recorded as 5th of Iyar, 5708 (dated from the Creation). Also because the celebration date this year falls on Friday, the celebration is moved a day back so as to not conflict with Shabbat. Israelis do not mix the things of G-d such as Shabbat, with the things of men.
Israel has faced attack from what always seemed overwhelming odds even from the start. Arab nations from all over the region attacked on all sides and yet the Nation won. Stories of what can only be described as miracles saturate the wars and years of constant attack that the Nation of 8.1 million Jews, Christians, Muslim and Druze citizens endure. Could any of us expect our home countries do better?
We need to write our governmental representatives and ask them to recommit to Israel’s support. We need to email or call our local media to urge them publish an acknowledgement of this event. We can use our social media, call friends, and have a celebration at church or with a social group as well. Displaying an Israeli flag, wearing a T-shirt to the gym with an Israel motif, all these can show the people of The Land that we stand now and forever for Israel.

It’s good to see something pro-Israel.
I have held those beliefs throughout my life.
I had been recruited by defense intelligence for covert multinational counter-terrorism task force work in 1972, a job which I had performed full-time until 1983.
I had also gladly served in the Middle East during the Iranian incident, prior to the Soviets pulling out of Afghanistan, and during the counter-Taliban push
I have sustained various injuries during these activities— a broken neck, broken back, crushed left leg, and others.
Including a hernia that doctors with the US veterans’ administration had neglected until the mass had protruded 15 inches, and was literally threatening my life.
The Veterans Administration has been very, very reluctant to treat ANY of the injuries I had sustained while with the counter-terrorist task force.
The extent of my post-injury disabilities led to the government declaring me a “special housebound” veteran, with “numerous injuries exceeding 160 percent of compensatible status.”
Sounds good, doesn’t it?
All it entitles me to is $1,270.00 a month. AND NOTHING ELSE.
I can barely make ends meet.
Each month is a new struggle to have enough money to survive.
Earlier in my life my wife and child had died, and I am alone in the world,
I live alone, except for a rescued stray cat for company, in a cramped, 80-year-old rental house.
Granted, my life is very “grim.” I’ve really nothing for which to live.
BUT—- I still would have fought terrorists and terrorism all round the world, defending Israel and the Holy Land from the Islamic Terror.
I still would have endured my injuries, because they were earned defending what is RIGHT, and what is HOLY.

Hello my dear friend Sigmund Kerns, just a quick note to encourage you, and to bless you, for your genuine and unwavering caring/love for the apple of His eye, Israel……I believe God puts the love for Israel in your heart for a reason, and I trust that the Lord will keep you, protect you, and bless you for it, for the Lord said: ‘I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.’ (Genesis 12:3) So I like to bless you, my friend, for all that you did in defending Israel, and I pray the Lord will turn all your wounding into His blessings as He anoint your wounds with His healing oil drip from His mercy seat…….
I firmly believe God Himself also sternly warns the nations about their attitude towards his people, Israel:: “For whoever touches you (Israel) touches the apple of his eye’ (Zechariah 2:8), also what it stays in Zechariah 8:23, as the end time draws near, we pray those who are hostile toward this nation will be transformed and bless Israel.
May God’s protection, peace, and joy fill your heart, as He loves those who love and bless the apple of His eye…..bless you my friend, may God’s presence be with you!
