Part 1 Part 2
This tiny nation is always in the news—why? (Part 3)
“I will also make You a light of the nations So that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”(Isaiah 49:6)
Israel as the Center of World Attention
With a total population of about 8 million, 6 million of which are Jews, hardly a day goes by that Israel is not in the news. (Jewishvirtuallibrary.org) Much larger countries like Mexico for example, are hardly heard from. Even China, with its population of over 1.3 billion has only recently gained recognition in the world news. The world seems to think that if Israel would just go along with the West and let the Palestinians have their state at any cost, the world would finally be at peace. But Israel knows from experience that any weakening of its defenses can lead to a national catastrophe, and they are not about to do it, at least not without a fight. Even as this is being written, the US is dragging its feet at doing anything to curb the excesses being practiced by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who has allegedly employed chemical weapons against his own people. Israel now says it will have to assure its security alone. Comparing the US reaction to Syria’s use of chemical weapons to the events that took place prior to WWII when the world responded weakly to Adolph Hitler’s advances, coalition partner and Economy and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett wrote on his Facebook page: “From Munich 1938 to Damascus 2013 nothing has changed. This is the lesson we ought to learn from the events in Syria.” (JPost)
Israel is strategically important to the US since it is the only true democracy in the Middle East and probably its only true ally. Since its reestablishment as a nation in 1948 after two thousand years of being scattered, the nation of Israel has not only proved to be America’s strongest ally in the region, it is also a technological marvel and the developer of many of the world’s leading innovations in science and technology. In their book “Start-up Nation: The Story of Israel’s Economic Miracle,” authors Dan Senor and Saul Singer describe the miracle of Israel as an economic phenomenon. In its review of the book, the British magazine The Economist describes Israel as having more high-tech start-ups and a larger venture capital industry per capita than any other of the world’s nations.
Here are some outstanding examples of recent life changing Israeli inventions:
– The First Care Emergency Bandage (also known as the “Israeli bandage”), invented by an Israeli military medic, is used to stop bleeding from hemorrhagic wounds in trauma situations. (Saved life of US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords)
– Mobileye technology for identifying and alerting drivers to driving hazards. Being included in all new cars.
– SensAheart warns of oncoming heartattack.
– The Babysense breathing monitor warns of cessation of breathing in infant.
– the Israeli-made Skysaver used to rescue people from skyscrapers.
– ReWalk makes it possible for paraplegics to walk again even up and down steps.
All of these are Israeli lifesaving and life changing inventions.
…to be continued.
