What we can learn from his type of leadership.
When you examine the biographies of Israel’s Prime Ministers there is a common denominator that makes them stand out among other world leaders: they have exceptional educations and they have deep experience in government. Benjamin Netanyahu is Prime Minister of Israel and an excellent example of why Israel cannot err in selecting it leaders. In this day of instant celebrities, presidents and premiers with “character issues”and a widespread apathy and short attention span problems among populations, leaders such as “Bibi” seem to be an exception. This is another reason for supporting Israel.
Benjamin Netanyahu was born in 1949 in Jerusalem, he was educated at MIT earning a Bachelors in Science in architecture and Masters in Management Studies, also studying political science at Harvard in the USA and was a partner in a prestigious Boston, Massachusetts consulting firm. He returned to Israel in 1967 for his military service. He volunteered for a commando unit with the IDF and was involved in a number of daring operations and several hostage rescues. He left active service as a captain.
Netanayahu’s brother Yoni was killed in action during a hostage rescue operation in Uganda. Benjamin organized two successful international conferences dealing with global terrorism in Jerusalem in1979 and Washington, DC in 1984. He was posted to the USA as a member of the Israeli Diplomatic Corps. He was also in the political arena as a member of the Likud party in the Knesset. He was also served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. He served as Prime Minister from 1996 to 1999. In 2009 he was again selected as Prime Minister and has seen intense world scrutiny as Hamas increased its efforts to destroy Israel .Netanyahu has won the respect of many on a world stage and is recognized as a firm and steady leader and statesman.
Netanyahu served as successive, responsible posts within the Israeli Government. He was successful in each and this added to his qualifications as a leader. His education enabled him to work with numerous clienteles and world leaders. His education in the United States prepared him for dealing with a very complex and changeable political body with sometimes deep philosophical and ideological differences. His military experience and battle proven leadership has placed him above many world leaders who lack this background.
We can learn from Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli method of leadership that popularity is insignificant to ability and experience and integrity. No one can expect to be free from criticism once they declare themselves for any position of authority. World leaders often have secrets that must be undisclosed to keep the nation safe. The burdens of high office must be born alone and only by the strength that real character can convey.
Israel cannot afford to take chances in its leaders. They must be known quantities and have proven themselves by experience. Benjamin Netanyahu is an excellent example of how to lead and we should take note of it.
