The 'Shin' Hebrew letter stands for the word Shaddai, a name for YHVH / GOD. Because of this, a Kohen (priest) forms the letter Shin with his hands as he recites the Priestly Blessing.

The shards of glass inlaid in this piece originate from 2000 year old fragments of glass vessels discovered on archaeological digs in the Holy Land.

The letter Shin is often inscribed on the case containing a mezuzah, a scroll of parchment with Biblical text written on it. The text contained in the mezuzah is the Shema Yisrael prayer, which calls us to love GOD with all our heart, soul and strength.
