Magen David (Hebrew for Shield of David) is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Jewish people, culture, and faith.

Contrary to other Jewish symbols, such as the menorah, dating back thousands of years, the Star of David has a much more recent connection to the Jewish faith. Here’s a look at the origins of the Star of David and how it became the symbol of an entire nation.

Geometrically, the Star of David is formed by crossing two equilateral triangles over each other to create a six-pointed star or hexagram.
