Since Biblical times, the olive tree and its oil have played a major role in both the physical and Spiritual existence of GOD’s chosen people.
Olive oil is one of the “good things” GOD uses in Deuteronomy 8 verse 8 to teach the Israelite’s about the riches awaiting them in the Promised Land. With its myriad uses – including cooking, providing light, cleansing, beautification, medicinal and of course, Spiritual – it’s been a source of blessing to the nation of Israel for centuries. And just as GOD decreed in Genesis 22 verse 18 that the blessing HE poured out over Abraham, would also pour over to the nations, anointing oil is one of those blessings now also benefiting the gentile church.
The main blessing to the world at large would be JESUS, of course. But incidentally, our anointing is 100% rooted in the MESSIAH and directly linked to the biggest BLESSING of all!
The Bible teaches us everything we need to know about anointing oil, which is why it’s a blessing in itself to order these products direct from Israel. It’s not just the special symbolism behind using oil that is harvested in the very places where YESHUA taught, but all aspects of our anointing oil find its origin in the Holy Land. When using oils from The Jerusalem Gift Shop, you are guaranteed that it is prepared according to Biblical prescription, made by people who have been brought up according to GOD’s Word and continue to live by it today.
The importance of using olive oil as base ingredient for anointing oil becomes clear when we consider the significant Scriptural symbolism the olive tree, fruit and oil carry. From JESUS being depicted as a special shoot that would bring righteousness to the world (Jeremiah 23 verse 5) and gentiles being described as grafted into the olive tree through YESHUA (Romans 11 verse 17), right through to the parallels we can draw between olive oil production, anointing oil uses and the MESSIAH’S gift on the cross: JESUS is the original son of GOD and the ONE that went before us, becoming the “first fruit” sacrifice that paved the way for our victory over death. By HIS crushed body, we gain healing, cleansing and consecration. We become priests and royal heirs (Revelation 5 verse 10).
YESHUA’s “first fruit” offering brings us to a further Biblical specification for anointing oil. In HIS Word, GOD advises the use of first-pressed olive oil. It’s a habit that guarantees superior quality oil as foundation for our anointing oil, but moreover, it honors GOD’s principle of First Fruits. A principle that we know HE will honor in turn. The virgin batch extracted from the olive press is known as first-pressed oil and all subsequent batches are of a considerable lower quality, employing methods such as chemical treatment to produce the optimal amount of oil from the fruits.
While the right type of oil is important, the consecration of the oil carries the utmost weight. This is where the oil is prayed over, dedicated to GOD and made holy for HIS purposes. It can be described as soaking the oil in the SPIRIT of GOD, because ultimately, by anointing, we are calling for the presence of the SPIRIT to be poured out over us.
This teaches us that the power of anointing oil lies exclusively in the ALMIGHTY. Believers continue to share testimonies of the miraculous breakthroughs achieved when using anointing oil for healing and breaking bonds, but before we are tempted to worship the physical object, we have to understand that it is a mere tool the SPIRIT uses to flow through us and fill us with the power of GOD.
Building on the olive oil base, the product is then infused with essential oils extracted from herbs and flowers we read about in the Scriptures. These aromatic oils add a pleasing scent to the product, but the fragrant aspect goes much deeper than just stimulating the senses. Using the Bible as guide once more, the fragrances are added according to the Spiritual significance and symbolism they convey.
Among the main essences used are Frankincense & Myrrh – symbolic of Healing or Intercession, as well as the Bride purifying and preparing for her BRIDGROOM; Spikenard – symbolic of extravagant adoration, worship and sacrifice that overlook the cost of love; Rose of Sharon – symbolic of the beauty of the Beloved and beauty flowering in tough conditions; Lily of the Valley – symbolic of purity of heart and the care of the BRIDEGROOM causing HIS Beloved to rest in a restless world; Balm of Gilead – symbolic of healing, it’s a rare perfume used for medicinal purposes; and Cinnamon – symbolic of holy boldness and the passion to act courageously.
