One of the most important things to know about blessed oil prayer is that there is no power in the oil itself, but that the power is bestowed by GOD, and its intent is for HIS plans and purposes.
The oil is merely a natural substance that goes through a process of transformation into a Spiritual tool, using prayer to sanctify, consecrate, set it apart and make it holy unto GOD.
So what would the blessed oil prayer process look like?
The Bible teaches us that the SPIRIT steps in during the act of anointing with oil, establishing GOD’s objectives in a powerful way. Straight after Samuel anoints David as future king, 1 Samuel 16 verse 13 tells us that “…the SPIRIT of the LORD came mightily upon David from that day.” JESUS himself describes it as such in Luke 4 verse 18: “The SPIRIT of the LORD is upon ME because HE has anointed ME to preach the gospel to the poor.”
It’s widely believed that the oil of anointment is a symbol or token of the SPIRIT and we know that in the SPIRIT we are given a Counselor and an Illuminating Light or Guidance.
Seeking the direction of the SPIRIT during all phases of anointing with oil is therefore imperative. What to anoint with, how to anoint, and especially the prayer and preparation of the oil – these are the things we take to the SPIRIT, requesting an act of transformation.
There is more we can learn about this topic from James 5 verses 14 to 15: “Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the LORD. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick…”
It teaches us that anointing should be done “in the name of the LORD”. Whatever we hope to achieve through the anointing – be it healing, blessing, consecrating, we attain it in or through the power of GOD. The verse also refers to a “prayer of faith”. A prayer of faith would mean we expect our requests to come to pass (providing it fits into GOD’s will). Elders, according to Old Testament references, were considered ‘wise men’ among the nation of Israel and the people looked to them for guidance and leadership. Suffice to say, they were men of faith in GOD, and probably in ancient Israel context, men who have witnessed the faithfulness of GOD.
In Mark 6 JESUS sends out HIS disciples to heal the sick and to anoint them with oil, later also instructing them to teach people their ways, saying that they will do the things HE has done and more. As men of faith in the MESSIAH, they had the authority to bring about GOD’s purposes through the act of anointing.
Blessed oil and the churches
What started as a ritual among the nation of Israel, was also incorporated into the foundations of the early churches that formed following JESUS’ ascension. During centuries gone by, anointing with oil is one of the Biblically prescribed actions that have fallen by the wayside. Yet as believers are starting to rediscover their authentic Biblical roots, its use is on the rise around the world.
Having practiced the generational art of oiled anointing throughout all these years, the faithful of Israel provides us with a valuable example of keeping GOD’s Old Testament prescriptions. And it’s for this very reason that so many believers chose to order their oil of anointing direct from Israel. With the application of oil also prominent as an act of faith in other religions, users know that the source of the blessing can be trusted. They also relish in the significance of using oil that originates in the Holy Land and it’s a means of returning a blessing to the nation in which all the nations of the earth are blessed.
Here is a short video that shows the harvesting of olives in Israel’s Biblical times for the Temple use and for holy anointing oil according to GOD’s specification.
