Osem Investments Ltd. produces Osem foods and it is one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of food items in Israel.

History of Osem Foods

In 1942, Eugen Propper, along with his partner merged two factories (Assisit and Itrit) to create Osem. The name Osem comes from an ancient Jewish prayer. In 1946, the first factory of the company was built in Bnei-Brak and the factory used to produce noodles. In 1953, it started producing ptitim upon the request of David Ben-Gurion. It was in 1964 that the company first produced its main product – the peanut butter-flavored Bamba. By 1970, the company added other food items to its portfolio, including baked food, Bissli snacks and soup powders (including MSG-free versions). The main factory of Osem was built in 1976 in Petah Tikva and houses its sauce factory, administrative office and distribution center. All Osem food products are manufactured under the kosher supervision of the Chief Rabbinate and most of the products are certified by the Edah HaChareidis.
