Rosh Hashanah Gifts

Judaica-New year Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah is the start of the Jewish New Year and is also known as Yom Teruah in the Bible. In literal terms, Yom Teruah means "day (of) shouting or blasting". Rosh Hashanah is the first Jewish High Holy Day as mentioned in Leviticus 23:23–32.

Rosh Hashanah celebration

Rosh Hashanah is celebrated over two days and begins on the first day of Tishrei, the first month of the Jewish civil year (the seventh month of the ecclesiastical year). Following the Jewish custom, this is the beginning of the year because it is believed that Adam and Eve were created during this time.

There are many Jewish customs related to Rosh Hashanah, including the sounding of the shofar. The rabbinical customs also dictate that the Jewish people attend the synagogue services during this time, where they recite special liturgy on teshuva.

The faithful also enjoy meals during this time and some of the traditional food items that are consumed are apples dipped in honey. These apples create hope among people that the New Year would be a sweet one.
